Smile! It's a sunbeam!

Every day, the sun rises and sets. Most of us know that this is not due to any motion of the sun, but rather the motion of the Earth as it spins on its axis. Darkness comes when part of the Earth is turned away from the sun. But the sun impacts our lives in many more ways.

The sun is not only a source of light, but also a source of life! Even when it seems dark, the sun is still at work, warming our Earth and allowing it to sustain life in otherwise cold space. Without the sun, life as we see it today could not exist. Maybe that is why humans have looked to the sun as an inspiration; a symbol of hope and new beginnings. We study it, tell stories about it, and wonder about this critical part of our solar system.
